Encarna Esteban Garcia (April 19-June 30, 2009)
- Ms. Esteban Garcia is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Economics, University of Zaragoza. She conducts her dissertation research in the Agrifood Research and Technology Center (CITA) in Zaragoza, Spain. She received her Bs.C degree in Economics from the University of Zaragoza in 2004, and an Ms.C. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Connecticut at Storrs in 2008. Her research focuses on problems of quality and quantity of water resources, analysis of nonpoint pollution control policies, and groundwater management.
- Purpose of visit: Work with and get advice from WSPC affiliated faculty (Jenerette, Fenandez, Umanskaya, Dinar) on developing a research paper. The paper addresses ground water management issues in the Eastern Mancha aquifer (between the Jucar and Segura river basins) and Western Mancha aquifer (Guadiana river basin) aquifers in southern Spain.

Robert Mendelsohn (March 10-12, 2009)
- Dr. Mendelsohn is an economist at Yale University who specializes in valuing the environment. He has developed methods to value the damage of air pollution emissions, hazardous waste pollution, wildlife populations, recreation, oil spills, timber, and non-timber forest products from tropical forests. For the last 15 years, Dr. Mendelsohn has measured the impacts of climate change with colleagues around the world. He has valued damages to agriculture, forests, energy, coastal resources, and water. A theme of this research is including adaptation. Dr. Mendelsohn has been involved in studies around the world revealing how people adapt to climate.
- Purpose of visit: Interact with faculty on issues related to water and climate change; initiate a collaborative study on climate change and water resources; present a seminar (See "Seminars") "Climate Change and Water: What Have We Learned?".

Stefano Farolfi (January 14-20, 2009)
- Stefano Farolfi is a senior economist at the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD). He holds a PhD from the University of Padova (Italy) and a professorship in economics from the University of Montpellier I (France). He is currently a Research fellow at the Centre for Environmental Economics and Policy in Africa (CEEPA) of the University of Pretoria, where he leads a number of projects on water governance and management and teaches courses of environmental economics and policy. He published numerous scientific articles on the economics of water and co-edited a 2006 Earthscan book on water governance and sustainable development. His main research interests refer to the negotiation and coordination aspects of water management and allocation.
- Purpose of visit: Discuss possible collaboration on water research with the University of Pretoria; develop research ideas and initiate work with ES faculty; work on a chapter to a book; present a seminar (See "Seminars") "Water value and economic welfare cost of environmental protection in South Africa: Methods for decision-making at the catchment level".

Stefan Ambec (January 6-11, 2009).
- Stefan Ambec is researcher in the Toulouse School of Economics and a member of LERNA, a research center in environmental economics, and invited professor at the University of Lausanne. He holds a Master in Econometrics from the University of Toulouse and a PhD in Economics from the University of Montreal. His main research interests are in economic theory, environmental economics and industrial organization. His works have been published several academic journals including American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Canadian Journal of Economics, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Economics Theory and Social Choice and Welfare.
- Purpose of visit: Advance a paper on water and climate change; explore possible collaboration on water and strategic behavior; present a seminar (See "Seminars") "Pareto-Improving Regulations to Protect the Commons: an Experimental Investigation".
